Landfill Gas Success: Blower & Guard Innovation

Innovative Solutions for Landfill Gas Management: Multistage Centrifugal Blower and Uniguard Machine Guards in Action

Turning Challenges into Success: Multistage Centrifugal Blower with Uniguard Machine Guards

Application Overview: Landfill Gas Management
Managing landfill gas (LFG) is a critical process. As a byproduct of organic waste decomposition, LFG consists mostly of methane and carbon dioxide, with smaller amounts of oxygen, nitrogen, sulfides, and hydrogen. The Lone Star centrifugal blower plays a vital role by pulling a vacuum from the landfill’s hill, transporting the gas to the plant’s cleaning and treatment facility before it is safely flared off into the atmosphere.

The Challenge: A Concave Bearing Housing Surface
The project presented a unique challenge: the bearing housing of the blower featured a concave, non-flat surface. This irregularity made it difficult to achieve a secure and precise installation for optimal performance.

The Solution: Adapter Plate and Uniguard Machine Guards
To address the concave surface, we developed a custom adapter plate. Using studs, washers, and nuts, the plate was carefully adjusted until it was flush and evenly straight, ensuring proper blower installation.

But safety and maintenance accessibility were equally important. Enter Uniguard Machine Guards—a critical addition to the installation. These guards not only provide superior protection for the blower’s moving parts but also improve visibility and ease of maintenance. The guards ensure compliance with safety standards, shielding operators from potential hazards while preserving the integrity of the equipment.

The Results: Reliable Performance and Enhanced Safety
With the adapter plate securely installed and the Uniguard Machine Guards in place, the Lone Star centrifugal blower operates flawlessly. It reliably pulls vacuum from the landfill, ensuring the LFG reaches the cleaning and treatment phase before flaring. Meanwhile, the machine guards add an extra layer of safety, protecting both the equipment and personnel.

Before-and-After Photos
The before photos highlight the initial challenges posed by the concave housing and unprotected blower. In the after photos, you’ll see the transformation: a securely installed blower with the sleek and functional Uniguard Machine Guards in place.
